Artist statement
I make jewelry and scarves using crystal, natural stone and glass beads, metal, and yarn. The interplay of colors and textures are a visually and sensually appealing part of the creative process for me. I like trying new patterns; seeing a pattern and using it as a springboard to something different; putting colors together in an interesting or unexpected way. I have a deep sense of satisfaction when the craftsmanship turns out well, and the pattern and colors are rich and enticing.
I make items that are personal to the wearer, that speak to their sense of beauty and style. I want them to have a tactile relationship with the fabric and beads so they are not only eye-catching but also engage their sense of touch with the texture of the piece.
I select materials based on their appeal to me—the color, fire, or sparkle of something that draws me to it, the visual or tactile richness. I love taking raw materials like beads or yarn and making something from them that is stylish and attractive.
