Artist Bio
Susan makes jewelry and scarves using natural stone and glass beads, crystal, metal, and yarn. She enjoys the process of making an object that someone will take pleasure in wearing. Her goal is to enhance the wearer’s outfit and accent their personal style. Finding or adapting patterns that link the craft of yesteryear with today’s style is a way of honoring the handwork that was done by women in the past and linking it to new generations, a practice that is important to her.
She grew up in New York City where she took art courses in school, went to museums frequently (her favorites being the Frick and the Metropolitan Museum of Art), and practiced many types of art and craft. However, her most significant artistic influence has been the women who taught her to make things with her hands—relatives, friends, and teachers. All had a love of craft and making things that beautified the world around them, for the home or as something to wear.
Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Management (MBA) from Willamette University. She lives in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
